God redeemed the children of Israel out of bondage in Egypt, by asking the children of Israel to sacrifice lambs and to apply the blood on the doorposts of their homes. The blood of the lamb was like a covering that saved the firstborn sons of the Israelites from the angel of death which “passed over their homes”
(Exodus 12:13,23,27).
After this first Passover, God ordered Moses to put in place the sacrificial system of the tabernacle, where the blood of lamb and goats was used as a temporary cover for the sins of Israel, not as redemption.
According to the prophet Eziekel, the sacrifices never fully bought back the people of the consequences of their sin, which was death,
“Behold all souls are mine, the soul of the father as the soul of the son is Mine. The soul who sins will die” (Eziekel 18.4; Romans 6.23).
The sacrifice of lamb and goats was temporal (shadow of the real sacrifice that was to come later on at God´s appointed time, however, there came a time when God decided to offer Himself as the final and permanent sacrifice, as we find in (Isaiah 59: 16,20);
“He saw that there was no man and was astonished that there was no one to intercede; then His own arm brought salvation to Him, and His righteousness upheld Him…A redeemer will come to zion and to those who turn from transgression in Jacob”, declares the Lord.
God offered Himself to us as Jesus, who is our Redeemer. We were poor and destitute in our sins, but Jesus has made us Rich in His Spirit.
“The Spirit Himself testifies with our spirit that we are children of God, and if children, heirs also, heirs of God and fellow heirs with Jesus”.
When Jesus celebrated His last Passover dinner with His disciples, after the meal, He raised a cup of wine. Jesus is also telling us, His disciples to raise our cups in remembrance of our redemption from sin through Him.
“For you know that it was not with perishable things such as silver or gold that you were redeemed..but with the precious blood of Messiah, a lamb without blemish or defect” (1Peter 1:18).
After celebrating His last Passover dinner with His disciples, Jesus was crucified and buried, but He rose again on the third day. (John;20:1-10)
“Early on Early on the first day of the week, while it was still dark, Mary Magdalene went to the tomb and saw tht the stone had been removed from the entrance. So she came running to Simon Peter and the other disciple, the one Jesus loved, and said, “they have taken the Lord out of the tomb, and we don´t know where they have put Him!” So Peter and the other disciple started for the tomb.Both were running, but the other disciple outran Peter and reached the tomb first. He bent over and looked in at the strips of linen lying there but did not go in. Then Simon Peter came along behind hi and went straight into the tom. He saw the strips of linen lying there, as well as the cloth that had been wrapped around Jesus ´head. The clothe was still lying in it´s place, separate from the linen. Finally the other disciple who had reached the tomb first, also went inside. He saw and believed. (They still did not understand from Scripture that Jesus had to rise from the dead.) Then the disciples went back to where they were staying.”
The above scriptures, reveal beyond any doubts that Jesus rose from the dead. We ought to celebrate His resurrection from the dead. His resurrection gives us hope that we would also resurrect from the dead and we shall be with Him forever, for those who believe in Him and their redeemer from sin.
“Jesus is the first fruit of those who have fallen asleep” (1 Cor 15:20).
It is interesting to see that when Mary Magdalene came to the grave, she realized that the grave stone had been removed. She had surely been wondering who would help her remove the stone, because she had to anoint the body of Jesus. In live at times, we may have a grave stone, and we may be wondering who will remove that grave stone for us. The answer is simple. God has plans to remove the stone for us, and He removes it even before we arrive at the position where the stone is.
Furthermore, it is interesting to see the confusion or commotion centered around the resurrection. The disciples found it hard to understand that Jesus had risen because they had not understood the scriptures. However Jesus helps them understand, as He appeared to Mary who was crying, …..In live, there are times when because of one reason or the other, we get confused and there is commotion in our lives. However, at such times, Jesus is hanging around to help us out, as He helped the disciples to actually understand that He had risen from the dead. Jesus´ resurrection is central to the christian belief and without the resurrection, christians would have no hope. In shot there would be no christianity.
